Rio: Before I forget the past or maybe fall from a second
story window I thought I put these photos to work with your talent. If you
get the chance put it together like the web page you did for Rip
Collins. I would like you to say that this is a short tour
in the life of an old time Frogman. Thanks! Send me back the
pictures if you think of it. I will later gather up all my SEAL stuff and
donate it to the Museum in Florida. Your Teamate Billy

This picture is when we had a contest with the U.S. Army to see who could make
the most Hogies in 15 minutes. We had meat, lettuce, tomato, onions,
peppers, and then wrapped them. The winner got one thousand bucks.
We beat the pants off the U.S. Army and we donated the thousand bucks to the UDT
SEAL Assn.

A story about our Teamate Harry Mattingly:
Mattingly was a new SEAL young guy. He came to me for a briefing just before he deployed for the Vietnam. The one thing that I told him over and over again was not to run or follow the "bad guys" once that contact was made with the VC. Sure enough, the first op he was into, a fire fight ensued, the "bad guys" ran away and Mattingly runs after them. Bang! He was shot through the head. But interesting enough, just before Scott Lyons took the job from whoever had the province, not sure if it was US Army Special Forces, or a SEAL. When they killed the "Bad Guys" they would have the locals cut the ears off the dead enemy or laid grenades to booby trap the bodies. That was not good for winning hearts and minds. Scotty started a change and I followed suit. When we killed VC we left the bodies lay there, no cutting or bobby traps. The V.C. returned the favor. Harry's Body was found later just where they shot him in his tracks. So at least we did something right.
Funny that I can remember things like that and I cannot remember what I ate yesterday. I don't remember what day we left for that trip. Back here in Virginia Beach I am happy so go rope yourself a cow in Texas eat it and be happy!
Mention some place pictures are from second tour first tour 1962 in Danang with the junk force. Mr Waugh was my partner in this tourWe were a MTT10 team sent to train the sailors in that location for recon dutys.. No action taken by us at this time.. Or Recorded That should do it..
